5 Simple Steps to Eating Right

LOL JK this post is just about me and Taylor going to the Food Truck Festival in beautiful Grant Park over the weekend and stuffing our pie holes until we could no longer bear to be wearing pants. Listen. Everybody deserves a cheat day every now and then. This was ours, and we decided to make it count.

Steps 1 & 2:

Tacos and Fries. But not just any tacos and fries. How about we go for some cajun-marinated Tilapia tacos with MexSoul sauce from The Blaxican and some Bangkok Fries with Thai peanut sauce, curry mayo, green onion, and peanut crumbles from The Fry Guy? Ummm OK.

Ohhhh yesssss. These were both so good you guys, and I am now a firm believer that Thai peanut sauce makes everything better. Bland-ass baked potato? Thai peanut sauce. Fried chicken sandwich? Thai peanut sauce. Roasted vegetables? Thai peanut sauce. Banana pudding? Thai peanut sauce. Shitty day? Thai peanut sauce.

Steps 3 & 4:

Cuban Sandwiches and Meatballs.
Next stop on the midnight train to gluttony – the most enormous Cuban packed full of garlic pulled pork, Swiss, pickles, and ham from Chazito’s, and one giant ground chuck and pork mix meatball topped with homemade marinara and mozzarella cheese from Meatballerz. Woo buddy. I’m gettin’ the meat sweats just thinking about this second course again.

Wait… I thought Taylor held the title of Mama Ballz? I’m confused…

Step 5:

DONUTS, GLORIOUS DONUTS. Y’all know your girls were not about to leave this paradise without getting some fried doughy deliciousness in our guts, and since I think funnel cakes are disgusting (Taylor vehemently disagrees btw), we went for donuts from Simply Done. Taylor chose the French Toast Donuts – vanilla cake with cinnamon sugar, maple cream, and powdered sugar plus a scoop of vanilla ice cream. A bold choice for a bold woman. Great job, Taylor. I decided on the Apple Pie Donuts – vanilla cake with cinnamon sugar and apple pie filling without the vanilla ice cream scoop because I am obviously an idiot. They were still delicious, and the apple pie filling on top tasted reminiscently of a McDonald’s hot apple pie (and I mean that in the BEST way possible), but I immediately regretted foregoing the ice cream. Not ashamed to admit my mistakes here y’all. If you’re ever faced with the decision of whether or not to add ice cream to your donut balls, you had damn well better say yes.

Well, after the donuts we were about donezo, so we sat around under a tree for a while and talked about how much we love our dogs and then headed home. I wish I could tell you that that was the end of our eating adventure for the day, but Taylor totally texted me at 8:30 later that night and told me that she was ordering pizza from Cameli’s  at which point I admitted to her that I had already eaten at a separate but equally delicious pizza place (Savage Pizza) about an hour earlier. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s it for us this week, fam! Hit us up in the comments or on FB and tell us what food trucks you’re into, because we are probably going to do another post at the Food Truck Park soon, so we need to know what to try! Til next time, we’ll C U Next Tuesday!

xoxo

    1. THEY WERE SO GOOD. And totally agree. There is something magical about having someone hand you a box of fries or a giant meatball from the inside of a glorified ice cream truck. And for some reason food trucks are way less creepy than ice cream trucks. Must be the lack of circus music that makes them seem more legit?
